Motorcycle battery parts

A modern motorcycle battery parts is a marvel of compact packaging. Since even a smooth-running motorcycle subjects the innards of a battery to much greater vibration than a car, the motorcycle battery part's case will be a tighter fit to prevent the lead plates from rattling to pieces. But it's still generally true that a motorcycle that vibrates a lot will have a shorter battery life, because the plates themselves are more fragile than you might expect. They are constructed of highly active but very soft lead pastes applied to waffled supporting grids, which provide greater surface area for the chemical reaction than simple flat plates. The paste is porous to allow full penetration of the electrolyte, and the pastes on both the negative and positive plates begin as the same substance; a mixture of lead oxide, dilute sulfuric acid, water and special binders like plastic fiber that produce a material about the consistency of firm mud. Since the negative plates tend to contract in service, special expanders are added to their mix so they can't shrink to become inpenetrable and chemically inactive. Just like our simple cell, the plates are then submerged in electrolyte and given an electrical charge that forms them into positive and negative.

The motorcycle battery parts should never receive the kind of high-rate booster charge intended for a car battery, and unfortunately that always seems to be the only type of charger a service station has on hand when your bike needs help. The proper trickle-charging rate for a motorcycle battery parts is one-tenth of the A/H rating for as long as 10 hours, depending on how discharged it is.

The motorcycle battery parts are usually warranted for 6 months from the original date of purchase of the motorcycle. After this 6 month period, the battery is excluded from the terms of this warranty. The battery supplied with the motorcycle must be provided with sufficient charge to replenish that lost by the operation of the starting mechanism and/or the use of electrical equipment whilst the engine is not running.

A typical ""12 volt"" motorcycle battery part is composed of 6 cells that each produces 2.1 volts for a total of 12.6 volts. The 19 AH battery is also composed of 6 cells; however, each cell produces 2.2 volts for a total of 13.2 volts. Automatic chargers are designed to maintain 12.6 volt batteries. Leaving the 19 AH battery on one of these chargers will result in excessively low water levels. During the annual service, we find battery water levels 30%-40% below the minimum level on vehicles that are routinely connected to an automatic charger.

The recommendations are: Do not connect your automatic charger to your motorcycle battery parts for extended periods. Connect your automatic battery charger using an electrical timer set to turn on for a maximum 1/2 hour each day.
